Quoting the Iraqi newspaper "Babel", owned by Hussein's son Udai, 75 Iraqis have already joined the camp and Udai has donated $3.4 million dollars towards a Palestinian war chest.

----------------------------- Even a Jihad Has Its Rules
 Judith Miller Osama bin Laden, the renegade Saudi financier linked to the recent bombings of American Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, has justified his call to kill Americans by citing Muslim holy law. "Allah ordered us in this religion to purify Muslim land of all nonbelievers," he said in an interview with ABC in May. Libya, Iraq and militant Islamic groups have also applauded the bombings. Meanwhile, leaders in the Arab-American community and Islamic specialists have argued that such terrorists have distorted Islam's traditional teachings. And in a speech last week, President Clinton made a point of drawing a distinction between Muslim extremists and traditional Muslims -- the "hundreds of millions of good, peace-loving people all around the world," as he described them -- who condemn the killing of noncombatants in terrorist attacks. But just what does Muslim holy law say about these kind of terrorist attacks? Islamic holy law, or sharia, is based on the Koran and the precepts and practices of the Muslim prophet Mohammed and his seventh-century companions. Islam, of course, is open to many interpretations. But several Islamic scholars who live in the West say that Mr. bin Laden has justified his jihad, or holy war, against the United States by a highly unorthodox, though increasingly common interpretation of Islamic law and political tradition. Following in the tradition of other 20th-century radicals, like Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian militant theorist executed in 1966, Mr. bin Laden argues that a war against the United States is obligatory because of American "crimes" against Islam. These are often listed as America's presence on sacred Saudi Arabian soil, support for rulers throughout the Middle East whom the radicals say are "un-Islamic" and corrupt, Washington's "blind support" for what is characterized as Israel's "theft" of Muslim land and persecution of Palestinians, and supposed American indifference to the suffering of Bosnian Muslims. During his May interview, Mr. bin Laden made a point of saying, "After World War II, the Americans became more aggressive and oppressive, especially in the Muslim world," adding, "We do not differentiate between those dressed in military uniforms and civilians; they are all targets in this fatwa." Many Islamic scholars, however, argue that the holy war Mr. bin Laden has declared violates not only the elaborate regulations of Islamic law as traditionally accepted but also Arab tribal custom. Peter J. Awn, professor of religion and Middle Eastern studies at Columbia University, said that according to classical Islamic law, a jihad must be fought for the ultimate good of the Muslim faith. "It cannot be used simply for economic or political gain," Professor Awn said. According to mainstream Muslim jurists and scholars, there are four kinds of legitimate warfare in Islam, including wars against infidels and apostates, which are both jihads; all must be declared and conducted by the Muslim ruler of a state, or failing that, Islamic wise men. Mr. bin Laden, of course, is not a leader of a state. Nor is he a qadi, a judge, or a mufti, a Muslim legal scholar, Professor Awn added, and thus, is unqualified to issue what his supporters call fatwas, his religious rulings or opinions justifying the anti-American campaign. Quadir Amiryar, a political scientist at George Washington University, agrees with Professor Awn and notes that many of those who issue "fatwas" don't follow the procedures that Islamic law requires. He also argues that spreading Islam "by the sword" is traditionally considered a last resort. While it might have been justified during the invasion of Afghanistan, he said, "that justification evaporated with the departure of the Soviet Union." True, many Muslim clerics in the Middle East and elsewhere have interpreted Muslim law to justify terrorism, but Professor Amiryar argues that those calls for jihad often stem from frustration with their own leadership: "They are using these Islamic concepts in other contexts which were originally not intended." In his 1996 book on jihad, Rudolph Peters, a Dutch scholar, argues that while the umma, or Muslim community, has a duty to "expand the territory of the state," the doctrine of jihad forbids, among other things, the killing of noncombatants like children, women and old people. Thus, it would appear that even if Islamic law were stretched to consider women and children at the American Embassies combatants, the hundreds of Africans, many of whom are Muslim, who were killed near those embassies could not be considered combatants. Muslim law also provides that ambassadors and their missions be respected as long as they do not engage in espionage. (That's why the Islamic Government in Teheran insisted on characterizing the American Embassy where hostages were seized in the 1970's as "a nest of spies"). Professor Peters says a "war against unbelievers may not be mounted without summoning them to Islam or submission before an attack." In other words, people should be given a chance to embrace Islam as their faith before they are killed. Mr. bin Laden's defense of and reported ties to Egyptian and Palestinian suicide attacks on Israeli and American targets are also questionable under traditional Islamic precepts, scholars say. Islamic holy law forbids suicide. According to the traditions of the Prophet Mohammed, which believers claim are divinely inspired, the punishment is eternal repetition of the act by which a person dies. So if a man hangs himself, he'll spend an eternity choking. But as Professor Awn points out, Islam endorses martyrdom -- fighting, and if necessary, dying for one's faith. The Other Side of Who Ownes the Land WHO ARE THE PALESTINIANS? WHAT & WHERE IS PALESTINE? These and other questions will be addressed more fully as you go through this website. However, there is a preliminary historical fact that must be established now. There has never, I repeat NEVER, been a civilization or a nation referred to as "Palestine" and the very notion of a "Palestinian" Arab NATION having ancient attachments to the Holy Land going back to time immemorial is one of the biggest hoaxes ever perpetrated upon the world! There is, nor has there EVER been a distinct Palestinian culture or language. Further, there has never been an Palestinian state governed by ARAB Palestinians in history, nor was there ever a Palestinian national movement until after the 1967 Six-Day War, when Israel regained control over Judea and Samaria (the so-called "West Bank"). It was then, and only then, was a Palestinian national movement born with one primary goal: the creation of an Arab Palestinian state with which to replace Israel. It's really that simple! Israel became a nation in 1312B.C.E., two thousand years BEFORE the rise of Islam! Seven hundred and twenty-six years later [586 B.C.E.], these first ancient Jews were overrun and its First Jewish Temple (on today's Temple Mount!) was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, king of ancient Babylon. Many of the Jews were killed or expelled; however many were allowed to remain. These Jews along with their progeny and other Jews who would resettle over the next 500 years, rebuilt the Nation of Israel. Thus the claim that Jews suddenly appeared fifty years ago right after the Holocaust and drove out the "ancient Arab Palestinians" is preposterous! Then in 70 C.E. (nearly 2000 years ago), it was the Roman Empire's turn to march through ancient Israel and destroy the SECOND Jewish Temple, slaughtering or driving out much of its Jewish population. Many Jews left on their own because conditions for life were made unbearable in many respects... yet thousands and thousands stayed and rebelled on for centuries in order to once again rebuilt a Jewish Nation in this Holy Land. Over these next 2,000 years various Peoples, Religions and Empires have marched through Jerusalem, Israel's ancient capital. None bothered, nor were in the least interested in, building a Nation of their own. Included in these "invaders" were the Arabs. Thus in the 636 Arab marauders came to the land and uprooted even more of its Jews. However, they too did NOT form an Arab nation... and certainly NOT a "Palestinian" nation. And remember this one fact... it was not the Jews who "usurped" (a favorite word from the Arab propagandists) the land from the Arabs. If anything, it was the Arabs in 636 who overran and stole it from the Jews! In Conclusion: No nation, other than the ancient nations of Israel and later the reborn Nation of Israel in 1948, has ever ruled as a sovereign national entity on this land. A mighty Jewish empire extended over this entire area before the Arabs were even born! Want to talk religion? Fine. G-d GAVE the Land of Israel to the Jewish People. And G-d does nothing by accident! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "PALESTINE?" The term "Palestine" came from the name that the conquering Roman Empire gave the ancient Land of Israel in an attempt to once again obliterate the Jewish presence in the Holy Land. The Roman Procurator in charge of the Judean-Israel territories was so angry at the Jews for revolting that he called for his historians and asked who were the worst enemies of the Jews in their past history. The scribes said, ‘the Philistines." So, the Procurator declared that Land of Israel would from then on be called "Philistia" [further bastardized into "Palaistina"] to dishonor the Jews and obliterate their history. Hence the name "Palestine." The Arabs never give up trying to provide an historical link between the Arab "Palestinians" and the land. Some have even tried to link the name "Falastin" (which they use for "Palestine") with the ancient "Philistines!" The REAL ancient Philistines, however, were NOT Arabs... and neither was Goliath!!!! The Philistines were a migrant "Sea Peoples" who came from the area of the Aegean Sea and the Greek Islands and settled on the southern coast of the land of Canaan. The Arab of Palestinians are just that... Arabs! They have about as much historical roots to the ancient Philistines as does Yasser Arafat have to the Eskimos. The name "Palestine" has NOTHING whatsoever to do with Jewish, Chinese, Cambodians, Martians and certainly NOT the Arabs ancient history! It was merely a term first created by the Roman Empire. Even 900 years later when the Ottoman Empire [Turkey] had its turn to conquer the area, the term "Palestine" was still maintained to describe one of its districts. Palestine was a place within the Ottoman Empire... and never an empire of its own. Indeed Syria did not exist, nor did Jordan or Lebanon. It was all a vast tract of the Turkish Empire loosely called Palestine. THE RETURN TO ZION The Land of Israel was never devoid of Jews, although at times, only in the tens of thousands. This was because the land was virtually uninhabitable when the Jews once again began their God-given right AND duty to return to the land of their forefathers (the Zionist Movement) in the 1880s. The silly rhetoric about a massive Arab presence being overrun by "invading Jews" is quickly dispelled by Mark Twain, who visited the area in 1867. From his book, The Innocents Abroad... "A desolate country whose soil is rich enough, but is given over wholly to weeds -- a silent mournful expanse.... A desolation.... We never saw a human being on the whole route.... hardly a tree or shrub anywhere. Even the olive and the cactus, those fast friends of a worthless soil, had almost deserted the country." Palestine's early Jewish settlers were idealistic pioneers who arrived in pre-state Israel with every intention of living in peace alongside their Arab neighbors and upgrading the quality of life for all of the land's inhabitants. The vast majority of Arabs came to Israel AFTER these early Zionists pioneers began to drain the malaria-infested swamps and rebuild the land thereby creating the economic opportunities and medical availabilities which ATTRACTED Arabs from both surrounding territories and far-away Arab lands! In fact, over 90% if the Arabs in Israel migrated there within the last one hundred years. So much for their lie that they have been there since "time immemorial!" Yet while the returning Jews were highly motivated to restore the land, the Arabs seethed with envy and hatred because they lacked both the leadership to inspire them or the motivation for they in fact were historical strangers there! Unlike the Jews, these Arabs who immigrated had no ancient love or bond to THIS homeland ... this ancient Land of the Jews! In Conclusion: There was NO "Arab Palestinian" history before the Arabs created one AFTER 1948 and especially after 1967! Archeological sites to this very day continue to yield artifacts with Hebrew writing, not some fictitious "Palestinian" or Arabic text! The so-called "Palestinian" Arabs were simply then, as they are now... Arabs no different culturally, historically or ethnically than other Arabs living in any other of the 24 Arab countries from which they came into "Palestine!" Had the Chinese come to the area, they too would be called "Palestinians!" And had the Arabs not continued to brainwash generation upon generation into believing this HISTORICAL HOGWASH about some "ancient" Arab Palestinian ties to the Holy Land, most could have gotten themselves a REAL life by now with much less bloodshed and suffering for everyone concerned! GREED, GREED, GREED! The Arabs of today occupy 24 nations... 99½% of the ENTIRE Middle East land mass while Israel has only a ½ of 1% speck on this same map. But that's still too much land for the Arabs to spare. They want it all. And that is ultimately what all the fighting is about today. Greed. Pride. Envy. No matter how many land concessions the Israelis might make, it will NEVER be enough! Peace treaties between the Israeli and the Arab world are meaningless. Even the Israeli-Egyptian treaty is holding on by a single thread and if you were to read the Egyptian and Jordanian newspapers you would think they are still at war with Israel! PEACE IS IMPOSSIBLE! The Arab campaign against Israel is rooted not in a negotiable grievance but in a basic opposition to the very existence of Jewish sovereignty! The intent of the Arabs is to separate out Judaism from Israel... and then to separate Israel from the face of the Earth. The Death of Compromise "There's No More Middle in the Middle East" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Question of Jerusalem And the Temple Mount For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has only been a Jewish capital.... the ONLY Jewish capital, founded by King David. Jews have always lived in Jerusalem, except when they have been massacred or driven out. There has been a nearly unbroken Jewish presence in the city for the past 1,600 years, and at least since the early 1800s, the population of Jerusalem has been predominantly Jewish. Even when the Jordanians occupied Jerusalem from 1948-67, they never sought to make it their capital or make it the capital of any Arab "Palestinian" people. In fact, Arab leaders from other Arab countries hardly even bothered to visit Jerusalem! ONLY to the Jews has Jerusalem ever held special meaning! Another myth deals with the issue of Jerusalem and its Temple Mount. The myth is that Jerusalem is really an Arab city, that the Temple Mount is the third holiest site in Islam, and that it is a central focus of Islam. The truth is that the Arabs expressed very limited interest in the Temple Mount before 1967. One more thing about Jerusalem in general and the Temple Mount in particular. Islam's holy(?) Koran mentions Mecca (in Saudi Arabia) hundreds of times. It mentions Medina (also in Saudi Arabia) countless times. It never mentions Jerusalem and with good reason. There is no historical evidence to suggest Mohammad ever visited Jerusalem! And if he did visit Jerusalem, it could not have been until 6 years AFTER his death. Therefore, the notion that Mohammed ascended to Heaven from a rock in Jerusalem is even more ridiculous! From 1948 to 1967, when East Jerusalem and the Temple Mount were under Muslim (Jordanian) rule, they were ignored by the Arab world. No Arab leader ever paid a visit, not even to pray at the al-Aqsa Mosque (located on the Temple Mount). Palestinians placed so low a priority on Jerusalem that the PLO's founding charter, the Palestinian National Covenant of 1964, makes no reference to it. Only when the Jews returned after the Six Day War did the Arabs SUDDENLY grow very passionate about Jerusalem! In truth, the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Aqsa mosques (both on the JEWISH temple Mount!) are just two of hundreds of thousands of Muslim mosques around the world. When a Jew prays from anywhere in the world, he faces the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. When a Moslem prays, even while IN Jerusalem, he faces Mecca (in Saudi Arabia). So in many cases, even when a Moslem is near the Temple Mount, his "hind quarters" are facing it! What does THIS tell you! And when Islamic suicide bombers try to take apart Jerusalem piece by piece, what does THAT tell you!
