 What started Mike in a new life was his death
 In the summer of 1968 Mike had this hellish experience which scared him so much that he moved out of his commune in Hollywood California, He quit taking drugs completely, quit smoking and anything that brought fear of death.
Mike began the very next day to read the bible from 6 am till 9 pm. He never dreamed that this would become a daily pattern during a desperate search for peace in his heart. His desperate search would take place over the next 9 months.
Mike lived as though in a constant life or death struggle to find peace with God. Nothing else mattered. He had tasted what eternity would be like without God's wonderfull pressence. He heard a tender voice say, "Michael, your life was in vain." (Quote from the Belfast Times Newspaper, August 1977. When Mike was speaking at an Interdenominational Service on Belfast's Main Street). 
After I came back from the other side, after I had seen what I had seen, and experienced what no man has ever felt, eternity without God. When I returned from the longest journey any human will travel. The things I learned, what I saw, what made me me shake constantly deep in my bones for many months. I couldn't hold a pencil I shook so badly.
After my hellish experience I felt like a blade of grass shivering in the cold wind, with nothing but eternal consequences before my eyes. A fear ran thorough me that made all of life's cares seem like distant murmurings. I had only one desire. I could only spend every day, every hour every breath on finding a way to escape that eternal future that I had barely returned from. I cancelled all my plans, my bad habits, addictions, everything, until I could find out how to make things right with my maker.
For the next 9 months I would read the bible from 6 am to 9 P.M., almost every day.
I would awake suddenly from dreams of hell, and felt in total recall the eternity alone without the only source of ALL GOOD Things. For nine months I shook, no friends comfort or the events of life could get my attention. All of life was like a faint murmer at the end of a long tunnel after my experience on the other side.
My conscious mind only wanted one thing, how can I find God, how can I keep from going to that place again.....
